Welcome!

The City Learning Centre (CLC) serves schools and the community of the North of Manchester. The CLC was opened in June 2002 by the MP for Blackley Graham Stringer. Our centre is one of 4 City Learning Centres that provide up to date facilities in information technology for schools and community across the City. We are based within the St Matthew's RC High School and provide the "STM Wan" which also serves local schools.'

BBC News School Report Latest

On Friday 18th January pupils from North Manchester High School for Girls and St Matthew’s RC High School came to the North East Manchester CLC to take part in a practise news day in preparation for the main event on March 13th this year. It was the second such practise event but only the first on for NMHSG pupils who did very well with their news report.

The two news teams reported on local news items as well as national news, weather, sport and celebrity gossip! Not all dead lines were met but that is the whole purpose of practise, hopefully it will make it all perfect for the March event.

Some pupils were interviewed by phone by staff for the BBC and their comments can be found on the BBC News Report Website which is where all information and links to other School News Reports can be found.

A new angle on the project was discovered recently with the purchase of 2 Nokia N800s for trial. These devices are not mobile phones but are Internet Tablets, they have a web browser, RSS reader, email package, Bluetooth, webcam and wireless internet connection. The possibilities of such a device are endless but that is another story, this one is concerned with communication with overseas.

As a follow up, pupils from NMHSG met with staff from the BBC to use their mobile phones to report the news. The news they reported on was appropriately all about mobile phones, their use, cost and down sides of such technologies. The girls interviewed members of the public at Middleton Shopping Centre who kindly allowed their comments to be filmed on mobile phones and then the girls edited the footage on computers at the North East Manchester CLC.
